There are certain places you hear about again and again when planning a trip to Napa, and Spa Solage is one of them. So naturally, my best friend and I added it to our itinerary.

A few weeks before our visit, I called the spa to learn more about the Mudslide treatment and finalize our booking. The associate I spoke with was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and made the entire process feel seamless, which set such a positive tone leading up to our visit.

We ended up booking a one-night stay at the Solage property, which included a $300 wellness credit, and decided to fully lean into the experience with their signature treatment: the Solage Mudslide.

The Experience

The Mudslide is Solage’s modern take on the traditional Calistoga mud bath—a three-part ritual designed to cleanse, restore, and relax.

Personalize your mud bath experience with selecting your favorite essential oil.

It’s interactive, a little messy (in the best way), and honestly…just fun!

You begin by selecting your own essential oil blend, which adds a really personalized touch. From there, you move through the experience at your own pace:

  • the mud

  • the mineral soaking tubs

  • and finally, a deep relaxation session in their zero gravity sound chairs

It’s one of those treatments that feels less like a service and more like something you experience—which made it perfect for a girls spa day.

The Space

The spa itself is exactly what you’d expect from a five-star property: clean, modern, and calming.

What really makes this location special, though, is the setting. Surrounded by mountains with mist rolling through the landscape, it felt incredibly serene—almost cinematic at times. Even with the rain, there was something about the atmosphere that made it feel like a true escape.

Lovely outdoor fireplace setting the mode of calmness and warmth.

The relaxation spaces are beautiful, and the layout makes it easy to move through each part of the experience without ever feeling rushed. The staff was consistently kind and helpful throughout the day.

Because of the weather, the team thoughtfully offered us access to a bathhouse cabana so we could comfortably enjoy lunch and relax between treatments. It was a small but meaningful touch that really elevated the experience.

That said, many of the spa’s amenities are outdoors, and with the rain, we weren’t able to fully enjoy everything the space has to offer. From what we did experience, though, it’s easy to see how this spa truly shines on a warm Napa day.

A Few Things to Note

There were a few minor operational details during our visit that are worth noting.

At the time, the spa was undergoing some maintenance, which hadn’t been communicated in advance. As a result, indoor showers were unavailable, and a few amenities were limited, with light construction visible in certain areas.

After a full day at the spa, we were looking forward to easing into the next part of the experience and getting ready before heading out. At the time, we were guided to the outdoor showers. I can imagine on a warm Napa afternoon this would feel incredibly refreshing and in line with the indoor-outdoor flow of the space. With the rain, however, it made that transition feel a bit less seamless than expected.

There was also a brief moment during our mud treatment where a staff member entered the room. While quick and unobtrusive, it momentarily interrupted the otherwise calm, private atmosphere.

One small detail that would have elevated the experience further would have been the option for a late checkout to get ready in-room post-treatment—especially for guests with travel plans shortly after.

Final Thoughts

This is one I went back and forth on. Because at its core, Solage is a beautiful property with a truly unique spa and signature treatment—and I did genuinely enjoy the Mudslide experience.

For me, the timing of the visit (rain + maintenance) played a big role in not being able to experience the spa at its full potential.

If I were to do it again, I would:

  • Book the Mudslide or another service as a standalone experience.

  • Visit on a clear day, if possible.

  • Confirm all amenities are fully operational ahead of time.

I really do think, under the right conditions, this would feel like a completely different experience. If you’d like to see the experience, I shared a closer look on Instagram.
