Valmont for The Spa at The Setai: Is This Intimate Miami Beach Spa Worth It?

As part of my Miami Spa Months series, my husband and I spent a Thursday at Valmont for The Spa at The Setai, Miami Beach, an intimate luxury spa tucked inside one of Miami Beach's most recognized hotels.

The Setai is known for blending Asian-inspired hospitality with Miami's Art Deco style, and its spa continues that sense of understated luxury. Unlike some of the larger destination spas I have visited, this experience isn't about spending hours moving through an extensive hydrotherapy circuit. Instead, it's centered around privacy, personalized service and beautiful treatments.

Booking & Arrival

I booked our treatments over the phone, and from the beginning, the service was wonderful. The woman assisting me was warm, attentive and made the process incredibly easy. I received a confirmation and a call the day before our appointment, including a helpful reminder to allow extra time for Miami traffic.

When we arrived, there was quite a bit of construction surrounding the hotel, so the exterior wasn't necessarily the serene first impression you might expect. Once inside, however, we were immediately welcomed and personally shown the way to the spa.

One thing to know before visiting is that The Setai takes guest privacy very seriously, with strict limitations on photography and videography throughout the property. While that meant I wasn't able to capture as much content as I normally would for Spa Vibes Only, I appreciated how committed they were to maintaining a private environment for their guests.

An Intimate Spa Experience

The spa itself is quite intimate. The Setai has just seven treatment rooms, including five couples suites, which explains why the entire experience feels so private.

After checking in, I was shown to the women's locker room and changed into one of the plushest spa robes I have experienced. Even the footwear stood out. Instead of typical disposable spa slippers, The Setai provided comfortable branded flip-flops that were ours to take home.

The wellness amenities are minimal compared with some of the larger spas I have visited, but everything was beautifully maintained. One unique feature was the steam shower, which allows you to steam and shower within the same private space. There is also a beautiful Finnish sauna.

For someone who loves an elaborate spa circuit with numerous amenities, this probably won't be the main attraction. The luxury here comes more from the intimacy, service and treatment experience.

Our Miami Spa Months Treatment

For Miami Spa Months, we booked the 60-minute Couples Balinese Massage with Vibrational Sound Bowls for $398 total.

After meeting our massage therapists, we were escorted back through the hotel and up to the 18th floor, where our private couples suite was waiting.

And this was where the experience really became special.

Our suite was beautiful, with two massage tables dressed in luxurious linens, fresh orchids, a sound bowl and floor-to-ceiling windows framed by sheer white curtains overlooking Miami Beach. The suite also included its own private bathroom with a large soaking tub and shower.

Unlike the darker, cocoon-like treatment rooms I typically experience, this room was filled with natural Miami light. I initially wondered whether it would affect the relaxation experience, but once the treatment began, it didn't bother me at all. If anything, the views made the setting feel completely unique.

Before beginning, our therapists Alejandro and Yabdale asked about our preferences and areas of concern. My husband wanted a relaxing massage, while I requested more attention to the tension I carry in my neck, shoulders and upper back.

The treatment began with the sound bowl ritual. Our therapists slowly moved around us as the vibrations and sounds filled the room, creating a calming transition into the massage.

My therapist Alejandro was excellent. He incorporated pressure-point work and spent time addressing the deeper knots and tension in my upper body while still keeping the treatment relaxing. My husband had exactly the experience he requested as well, with a much gentler, relaxation-focused massage.

The sound bowls returned at the end, closing the treatment in the same peaceful way it began.

The massage itself was easily the highlight of our visit. Both therapists listened to what we wanted and delivered two completely different experiences within the same couples treatment.

Taking Time to Relax

After our massages, we were escorted to a small relaxation lounge with plush, almost zero-gravity-style chairs, cozy blankets and beautiful views.

Hot and cold teas were available along with light, healthy snacks, and I was also brought a glass of Prosecco, which was a lovely touch.

We stayed for about 40 minutes, simply enjoying the quiet.

This was another area where the smaller size of the spa worked in its favor. Throughout our visit, we rarely encountered other guests. There were moments when it almost felt as though we had the spa to ourselves.

After relaxing, we returned to the locker rooms to enjoy the steam shower and sauna before changing and heading outside for a cocktail by the beach.

Would I Go Back?

Overall, Valmont for The Spa at The Setai delivered a beautiful and highly personalized treatment experience. The people were exceptional, the couples suite was stunning, and our therapists were easily the highlight of the day.

That said, this is a very different experience from some of the expansive destination spas I have visited. If your idea of the perfect spa day includes multiple pools, elaborate hydrotherapy circuits and hours of exploring wellness amenities, The Setai may feel limited.

If you value privacy, exceptional service, beautiful surroundings and a highly personalized treatment, that's where this spa shines.

Spa guests also had access to the beach during our visit. We decided to skip it that day because Miami Beach was experiencing heavier seaweed conditions, but it was still a beautiful day and plenty of guests were enjoying the water.

There is also considerable construction happening around the property right now, something I would keep in mind if you're planning a visit specifically for a relaxing day.

Would I make the drive across South Florida solely for another spa day here? Probably not.

But if I were staying at The Setai or spending a few days in Miami Beach, I would absolutely return to the spa. In fact, next time I would love to experience one of their famous Valmont facials, since skincare is such an important part of the spa's identity.

For me, The Setai wasn't about an elaborate spa circuit. It was about the moments that mattered most: an incredible therapist, a beautiful private suite overlooking Miami Beach, the vibration of the sound bowls and that wonderful feeling of having nowhere else to be.

And sometimes, that's exactly what a spa day should be.

Best For: Couples, privacy, personalized treatments and luxury hotel stays.

Spa Vibe: Intimate, refined and peaceful.

Would I Return? Yes, if I were staying at The Setai or in Miami Beach.
